illumio makes it possible for you to keep up with your favorite news and blogs without suffering from information overload. illumio monitors news and blogs (using RSS feeds) and alerts you to articles that match your interests. illumio is also social. You can participate in Q&A with others people that are reading the same feeds, comment on news stories and share your thoughts with other illumio users, and forward articles to your friends.
illumio is a download so that it can automatically recommend articles and questions that are relevant to you without you having to create a detailed profile of yourself. As a downloadable plug-in running on your computer, illumio indexes your files to privately determine your interests and expertise. This information never leaves your computer (the illumio service and other illumio users can never see what's on your computer) but the plug-in uses this information to filter articles and questions when it pulls them down to your computer.
illumio is a certified TRUSTe Trusted Download. This means that illumio is consumer friendly and completely safe to use. We always respect your privacy and we do not serve annoying ad pop-ups or allow spyware or malware to operate.

First, check your junk mail folder. Sometimes spam filters capture illumio invitations because they are automated emails. You can stop this from happening by adding illumio-no-reply@illumio.com to your address book. If you still haven't received the invitation, you can ask your friend to send the invitation again or just register on www.illumio.com and then join your friend’s group.
Check your bulk or spam folder. If you find it there, add illumio-no-reply@illumio.com to your address book or the approved sender list of your anti-spam software. This will ensure that future emails from our system get to your inbox. (We will not use your email for marketing purposes without your permission.)
If you're still having trouble, contact us and we'll try to help.
The illumio plug-in requires that you are running Microsoft Windows (Windows 2003, XP, or Vista). We also recommend that you have at least 1GB of RAM and a fast Internet connection (better than dial-up) so illumio can keep up with all the RSS feeds you want to monitor.
Not yet. We are working on a version of illumio for Mac users. If you give
us your email address,
we will contact you when it's available.
Yes, but each computer will recommend articles and questions to you based on the files and automatic matching settings on that computer.
Your login to the illumio client and website is the same one you entered on the sign-up page. Your entries are case sensitive, so be sure you type your email address and password exactly the way you did when you signed up for illumio. If you already tried this, then go to the Forgot Password form and have illumio send you an email so you can reset it.
Don't worry, this happens all the time. Just click the Forgot your password? link on the login page and we'll send an email to the primary email account in your profile. The email will contain a link to a page where you can reset your password.
Note: The first time you use the illumio plug-in after you change your password, you will be prompted to login.
Yes. You need to designate one as your primary email address, but otherwise you can enter a list of them in your profile page. Then use a different email for different groups if you want to, it is up to you.
Yes. Here are the steps to add a new email address to your profile.
Go to My Account page from either the website or from the My Settings tab in illumio plug-in.
Click the ‘Add Email’ button and type the email address you want to add.
illumio will send a verification email to the email address you entered. You need to go to that email account, retrieve the illumio email and click the link in the email to activate the new email address.
Once the link has been verified, you can either set the new email address as your primary address or leave it as your secondary address. In either case, you can now login using this email address.
You should not need to change your proxy settings. However, if you have difficulty connecting to illumio, you can specify the correct proxy and authentication settings by right clicking on the illumio icon in your desktop system tray and choosing 'Preferences' and 'Proxy Settings'. Please contact your system administrator if you need further assistance.

illumio uses stars to indicate how well the item matched your interests. If illumio is matching too many articles or questions to you, you can raise your matching threshold. Go to the ‘My Settings’ tab and edit your feeds to change the threshold for matching.
You can't unsubscribe from the RSS feed, but you can pause the feed so you don't get any more articles from the feed. Go to the 'My Settings' tab, find the feed you want to pause, then click on the Edit Icon and then 'Pause'.
Yes. By default, the illumio plug-in will show a pop-up notification in your desktop system tray when an article or question matches you at 2 or more stars. You can change this notification threshold by going to the 'My Settings' tab and clicking 'Desktop Notifications'.
Yes. To disable notifications, right click on the illumio icon in your system tray and select 'Pause Desktop Notification Popups'. This will stop showing you notifications until the illumio plug-in is restarted. To permanently disable notifications, right click and select 'Preferences' and then 'Desktop Notifications' and then select the 'Never show pop-up notifications' radio button.
Here are some suggestions for getting the best answers quickly:
- Choose appropriate keywords when creating your question.
- Provide details: Please provide as much information as possible in the
question field. People can only answer when they can understand the
question.
- Send to more groups: Sending your question to more groups
will mean more people will see the question and you'll be more likely to get responses.
Click the ‘Report’ link under the question and tell us about it. If it violates illumio community guidelines, we will remove it.
The illumio plug-in recommends articles and questions to you based on your files, emails, and web browsing history. To get better recommendations:
- Designate topics that interest you by adding keyword phrases to your Interest List. Go to the 'My Settings' tab and click 'Interest List'.
- Make sure illumio is indexing the correct files on your computer. Go to the 'My Settings' tab and click 'Automatic Matching'.
