Today’s data center is a true study in the evolution of computer science. In just 30 or so years, we have gone from centralized main frames to distributed server farms and now to flexible, anytime, anywhere data centers. As data center admins, we are all searching for the perfect Kaiburr crystal to amp up and secure our data centers.
In this two-part series, I cover app migration, since it’s the result and the true measure of an optimal data center design. In this first video, I’ll take you through securely adding a new app in a public cloud and then I move on to the dreaded data center consolidation.
A few things to look out for here: Notice that as I create these rules, I’m not using any network properties (e.g., IP addressing, VLANs, CIDR, or ACLs). Also, check out the screen we call “Illumination.” This is a live demo so you are seeing ALL traffic in real time from the workload’s point of view. Not from an upstream switch, probe, or SPAN port. Those traditional network “speed bumps” (monitoring multiple 10G ports with a single 10G port results in overruns or sampling) do not apply with Illumio ASP.
