Illumio Named One of the Top 50 Startups in Tech

Company's innovative approach to adaptive segmentation recognized "for its substance, not its hype"

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — July 13, 2016 Illumio, the Adaptive Security Company, today announced it has earned a spot in the Big 50-2016 report, Startup50’s annual roundup of the top tech startups to watch in the coming year.

To be included in the Big 50, startups must complete a series of detailed questionnaires, build a following through online voting, and demonstrate viability through a series of tests and challenges. The final 50 are the determined few who fought their way through the entire gauntlet.

“We’re excited to be recognized by Big 50,” said Alan Cohen, Chief Commercial Officer, Illumio. “Illumio is delivering the world’s largest organizations a new kind of visibility and security inside their data centers and clouds that is significantly reducing long-standing cyber vulnerabilities.”

Illumio is leading a new cybersecurity approach called “adaptive security,” which Gartner recently recognized as one of its Top 10 Strategic Technology Trends for 2016. The company grew rapidly in 2015—its first full year of shipping—acquiring several dozen enterprise customers and doubling its team from 75 to 155 to keep up with demand while continuing innovation and development.

“This is a really strong lineup, with startups tackling everything from artificial intelligence to water treatment to cybersecurity and Big Data,” said Jeff Vance, founder and Editor-in-Chief of Startup50. “I won’t be at all surprised if several of the startups in this report are household names in the coming years.”

About Startup50.com and the Big 50-2016

Jeff Vance founded Startup50 in 2014 in order to establish a hype-free zone and to start repairing the broken relationship between journalists, marketing/PR, and the startups themselves. Prior to founding Startup50, Jeff regularly contributed features stories to Forbes.com, Network World, CIO, Wired, and many others. He also founded and still runs Sandstorm Media, a content marketing consultancy, in 2003. The Big 50 is Jeff’s yearly roundup of the hottest 50 startups to watch. These are startups that have all gone through Startup50’s rigorous vetting process and that represent the technologies, market sectors, and trends that are poised to challenge the status quo in the coming year and beyond.
