Inside Illumio: Katherine Morgan

This month, meet Katherine Morgan, Director of Information Development at Illumio. Read about her involvement in shaping Illumio’s core values, why she’s fascinated by cybersecurity, and where she likes to spend her time outside of work.  

Tell us about yourself. What do you do at Illumio?

I manage the Technical Documentation team at Illumio. We create all the customer-facing content on how to use Illumio products.  

What made you interested in working at Illumio?

I started at Illumio 6 years ago. A former colleague recruited me to come to Illumio and manage the documentation team. He spoke so highly of the company that I knew it was worthing checking out. When I came for interviews, I was very impressed with everyone I met.  

What does a day in the life of Katherine look like? What are you working on that excites you?

Even though I manage a team of five technical writers, I still help write content for our software. I also do most of the web administration for our Illumio Documentation Portal (www.docs.illumio.com). In fact, I was the person who designed and rolled out our technical doc portal over four years ago.  

What is the most important thing you’ve learned at Illumio so far?

I’ve learned so much about cybersecurity. It’s such an important and technically fascinating field.  

What are you passionate outside of your career?

Outside of my career, I’m very passionate about the environment and nature. I’ve spent a good portion of my adult life camping, hiking, and backpacking.  

Which Illumio core value resonates most with you and why?

The core value that resonates with me most is “Build Trust” because I’m a very collaborative person by nature. I value teamwork as a critical component of success.  

Interesting fact: I was part of the workgroup that drafted the Illumio core values in July 2018. Participating in the group was a wonderful experience allowing me to leave a lasting mark on our corporate culture.
