Is the API becoming the new CLI?
With more and more functionality being added to products that are harder to represent with a GUI, a well-documented API is becoming more powerful and useful.
I’m starting to see my pissed-off tolerance factor around various Java requirements and broken frames becoming lower and lower. Look man, I just wanna get in there, run a few jobs, and then go on to my next tasks. I’ve started caring less about the interface and more about the API in the past few years.
If you’re new to API and programming, the time is right to really learn this stuff. I’ve got a couple of resources for you to begin learning and or brushing up on your Ruby skills.
- Chris Pine (Captain Kirk!) has an excellent site.
- I also like Code Academy’s Ruby stuff.
Both are a real credit to Ruby and make it easy to get up and going.
