About Andrew Rubin

As Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Illumio, Andrew is responsible for the overall strategy and vision of the company. With deep expertise in segmentation, network security and regulatory and compliance management, Andrew is a frequent participant in panels, articles and podcasts for leading industry events and publications. Goldman Sachs has named Andrew as one of the "100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs" each year since 2015 as part of its Builders & Innovators program. Andrew is also a member of the Board of Directors for email security platform company Armorblox.  

Prior to Illumio, Andrew was President and head of Worldwide Field Operations at Cymtec, a leader in the Intrusion Detection market. Andrew graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a BSBA in Finance, and he is a National Council member of the Skandalaris Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at the university. Originally from Brooklyn, NY, Andrew now lives in Silicon Valley with his wife and daughter. Andrew currently serves on the audit and compensation committees at Illumio.

PJ has 20 years of experience in engineering, with a focus on addressing the complexities of data centers. Prior to Illumio, PJ was CTO at Cymtec. He also held several roles at Juniper Networks, including distinguished engineer focused on advancing Juniper’s network security and layer 4-7 services plane. PJ graduated with honors from Cornell University.

About Joel Bauman

As Senior Vice President of Business and Corporate Development Joel is responsible for technology alliances, OEM programs, and other go-to-market partnerships to grow Illumio’s revenue and expand Illumio’s solutions. Joel has been helping grow technology businesses, particularly in cyber security, for nearly 20 years. Before joining Illumio, Joel was vice president of Business Development at Gamalon, an Artificial Intelligence company pioneering “Idea learning” in language applications. Joel remains a Director on Gamalon’s Board of Directors.

Prior to Gamalon, Joel helped grow cyber security firm Cylance as Vice President of Corporate and Business Development, taking the business from $0 to over $100MM in sales. Joel also led M&A activities at McAfee as a Director of Corporate Development and spent time in business and corporate development at Webroot and BMC Software.

Joel has an MBA from The University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs school of business, a Master’s degree in Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina, and a B.A. in Public Policy from Duke University.

About Scott Downie

As Senior Vice President of Support and Services, Scott is responsible for leading Illumio’s customer experience and implementation engagements. Previously, Scott built the support organization at Riverbed, where he grew revenue from $10 million to more than $400 million, operating a 24/7, global, follow-the-sun environment that supported a range of products from consumer-level software downloads to software and hardware appliances for 90 percent of the global 100 enterprises.

Prior to Riverbed, Scott was with Intransa, where he served as Vice President of Client Advocacy, and Luminous Networks, where he was Vice President of Customer Service. Scott graduated in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Napier University in Edinburgh, Scotland.

About Mario Espinoza

As Chief Product Officer (CPO), Mario Espinoza is responsible for leading Illumio’s product strategy and execution. Mario has a proven track record of creating and growing market leading products. Most recently, Mario was Vice President of SaaS Security and Data Protection at Palo Alto Networks, where he led product management and engineering for the CASB and Data Protection teams.

Prior to Palo Alto Networks, Mario was Vice President of Product Management for Information Protection at Symantec, where he was responsible for Data Loss Prevention, Encryption, Data Classification and UEBA. Before that, Mario held various positions in the Symantec Enterprise Security product management organization. Previously, Mario worked at SAP emerging solutions, co-founded two startups, and worked in Venture Capital. Mario holds an MBA degree from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley and MSc and Engineering degrees from the University of Chile.

As Chief Revenue Officer, Jim is responsible for maintaining and growing revenue. Prior to joining Illumio, Jim was President of Arxan Technologies, growing annual revenues almost 500% and leading to an acquisition by TPG. Previously, he was SVP at Imperva, helping growing revenues 300% to approximately $300M while maintaining high customer satisfaction NPS scores. Jim graduated with honors with an MBA in Finance from Texas A&M University system. He lives outside of Dallas, Texas with his wife and two daughters.

As Senior Vice President of Marketing, Gautam Mehandru is responsible for leading Illumio’s global marketing strategy and execution. With more than two decades of marketing, go-to-market, and business management experience, Gautam most recently led product and customer marketing at Tanium, a fast-growing cybersecurity company valued at more than $9B.

Prior to Tanium, Gautam led global product marketing, go-to-market strategy, and global business development for SAP Concur’s mid-market division. Before that, Gautam spent nearly ten years at Isilon/EMC (acquired by Dell) where he held a variety of marketing leadership positions and played an instrumental role in scaling both the Isilon brand and the business to become the undisputed leader in its category.

About Anup Singh

As Chief Financial Officer at Illumio, Anup is responsible for Illumio’s financial, legal, IT, and business strategies. He brings over 25 years of experience leading global growth and financial operations in the technology industry.

Prior to Illumio, Anup was EVP and CFO of Anaplan, an enterprise cloud planning software company. Previously, Anup was CFO of Nimble Storage, where he led the company through a successful IPO in 2013 and acquisition by HPE. Before Nimble, Anup served as CFO at Clearwell Systems (acquired by Symantec) and CFO at Warranty Corporation of America (an Asurion company).

Anup has been recognized as CFO of the Year by both Financial Executives International (FEI) and FEI Silicon Valley in 2017-18 and Finalist for the Bay Area CFO of the Year in 2014. He holds BA and MA Honors degrees in Economics and Management Science from Cambridge University, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

About Ben Verghese

As Senior Vice President of Engineering, Ben leads the team that delivers Illumio’s products. Prior to Illumio, Ben was Vice President of Engineering and Chief Management Architect at VMware. During his 13-year tenure at VMware, he was part of the ESX Server product founding team, led and delivered the VirtualCenter product from its inception, and led a number of the company’s strategic engineering initiatives.

In his career, Ben has spanned product development and research in networking, operating systems, and computer architecture at HP, Apollo Computers, DEC Research, and Compaq. Ben has a BS from IIT Madras, an MS from Cornell University, and a PhD in Computer Science from Stanford University.

About Steve Herrod

As a Partner at Juxtapose, Steve is helping to lead the creation of new software and enterprise-centric businesses. Before Juxtapose, Steve was Managing Director at General Catalyst Partners for nine years. Until 2013, Steve was Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of research and development at VMware. During his tenure, Steve helped build a world-class 3,000-person engineering organization that delivered numerous industry-changing products; he was also named InfoWorld’s CTO of the Year in 2009.

Prior to VMware, Steve co-led the development of a virtual CPU with “code morphing” technology at Transmeta Corporation, and held roles at SGI and MIPS Technologies. Outside of work, Steve focuses on the advancement of children’s education, particularly around STEM. Steve holds a PhD and a master’s degree in computer science from Stanford University, and a BA with distinction in computer science from the University of Texas at Austin. Steve currently serves on the compensation committee at Illumio.

About John Hinshaw

John Hinshaw joined HSBC in December 2019 and was appointed Group Chief Operating Officer in February 2020. He is a member of the Group Executive Committee. Mr. Hinshaw has extensive experience of transforming organizations in a wide range of industries. Before joining HSBC, he served on the Board of Directors of the Bank of New York Mellon (2014-2019) and chaired its Technology Committee. He also has served on the boards of Sysco Foods and DocuSign.

From 2011-2016, he served as Executive Vice President of Hewlett Packard and Hewlett Packard Enterprise where he managed Technology and Operations and was Chief Customer Officer. He has also held senior roles at Boeing and Verizon. He earlier served as a consultant with Accenture (then Andersen Consulting) and began his career as Computer Systems Manager for the American Embassies in Europe based in London.

Mr. Hinshaw has made several angel investments in technology startups in the areas of healthcare, HR technology, and food and beverages. He and his wife Julia are the majority owners of Blackbird Vineyards in Napa Valley, California. They have also established a charitable foundation with a focus on innovation in education and healthcare.

Mr. Hinshaw holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in computer information systems from James Madison University and is a graduate of the G100 next generation leadership program.

Mr. Hinshaw currently serves as chair of the compensation committee at Illumio.

Previously, Kourey was a partner at Khosla Ventures and also served as a member of the board and the audit committees of Aruba Networks, RingCentral, and Riverbed. In addition to leading the significant revenue growth and scale of public and private companies, Kourey has been deeply involved in five successful IPOs as CFO, venture partner, or audit chair.
