Illumio Raises $100 Million in Series C Financing Round

New Investors BlackRock Funds, Accel Partners and Others Join Existing Venture Investors and Industry Leaders John W. Thompson, Marc Benioff and Jerry Yang

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – April 14, 2015 Illumio today announced it has closed its $100 million Series C financing round. The new funding brings the security company’s total investment to more than $142 million in the past 27 months. Participating in the round are new investors BlackRock Funds and Accel Partners, joined by existing venture investors Formation 8, Andreessen Horowitz and General Catalyst. Also participating are Microsoft Chairman John W. Thompson, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff and Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang.

Illumio will use the new funding to meet rapidly increasing demand for the Illumio Adaptive Security Platform (ASP)™, invest in R&D to drive additional platform expansion, grow its sales and marketing efforts, and fuel international expansion.

“Perimeter security solutions leave 80 percent of the data center and cloud exposed and vulnerable to attacks that often lead to costly data breaches,” said Andrew Rubin, co-founder and CEO, Illumio. “Our market traction demonstrates that Illumio ASP is delivering security across all computing resources, infrastructures and applications. The funding and strong vote of confidence from investors will allow us to expand our market opportunity much more aggressively and to extend our platform deeper into more data center and computing elements.”

“The wide range of investors supporting Illumio reflects the company’s strong traction with Fortune 500 customers, the innovation of its policy and enforcement approach, and the magnitude of the problem it solves,” added John W. Thompson, Illumio board member, CEO of Virtual Instruments and chairman of the board for Microsoft. “The technology gap enterprises face in securing the interiors of their data centers and public cloud computing platforms is creating the proving ground to seize a once-in-a-generation opportunity to deliver a major new platform in the security space.”

The software-based Illumio ASP provides the first continuous delivery system for security. Illumio ASP programs the ideal security policy and manages enforcement across applications, workloads and processes as they are provisioned, operated and moved in any data center or private and public cloud infrastructure. Morgan Stanley, Plantronics, NTT and Creative Artists Agency (CAA) are among the many enterprises using Illumio ASP to continuously deliver efficient, comprehensive and dynamic security that mirrors today’s compute and application environments.

The subject of separate announcements today, Illumio also announced new product capabilities and a partnership with f5.
