KuppingerCole Names Illumio an Overall Leader in Zero Trust Platforms

Zero Trust started as an access problem. Today, it's a containment problem.

Hybrid and multi-cloud environments have made security more distributed — and attack paths harder to control. Attackers rarely need to force their way in. They sign in with valid credentials, then move between systems that already trust each other.

Zero Trust closes those paths, so breaches doesn't turn into company-wide disasters. That’s why the KuppingerCole Leadership Compass grades platforms on what happens after someone is already inside. It asks whether a platform can segment by identity, stop attackers from moving between systems, enforce the same policy everywhere, and cover machine identities.

In the 2026 KuppingerCole Leadership Compass: Zero Trust Platforms, Illumio is named an Overall Leader in microsegmentation and breach containment. The report points to how the policy model works. Rules follow the workload's identity instead of its IP address, so they hold up when things move or scale. And they're enforced on the workload itself, down to the process, across hybrid and multi-cloud.
