Inside Illumio: Gina Geraci

Inside Illumio is a monthly series that highlights the exceptional individuals behind Illumio's world-class products. Each post will peek behind the scenes to spotlight a member of our team. Come get to know us a little better and learn more about what makes Illumio's culture so unique.

This month, meet Gina Geraci, Senior Recruiting Coordinator at Illumio. Learn how she takes advantage of Illumio’s supportive, collaborative environment to develop her career, why she believes everyone should be looking at Illumio right now, and how she keeps herself busy outside of work.

Tell us about yourself. What do you do at Illumio?

I’ve been part of the People team here at Illumio for about a year and a half and was recently promoted to Senior Recruiting Coordinator.

I help schedule interviews with candidates and our amazing team to give candidates  the opportunity to potentially join Illumio. Alongside scheduling, I host a lot of on-site interviews and really enjoy bringing candidates on-site to physically meet them in person. We’re getting great feedback from both candidates and the Illumio team about how wonderful it is to be meeting in person again.

Recently, I've also been spearheading more cross-functional projects between the People team and other parts of the business, especially Marketing. This includes various  LinkedIn ad campaigns for open positions at Illumio, further development with the Internship Program, ongoing internal communications initiatives, and content on the Illumio blog.

What made you interested in working at Illumio?

When I saw the job listing, I was intrigued that it specifically mentioned opportunities for growth, learning, and cross-functional work. I’m still early in my career and was excited by a role where I would have flexibility to continue to develop my own career path.

Meeting the team through the interview process was what really sold me on Illumio, though. It was such a fun and engaging process. I appreciated how Illumio’s culture was reflected through the interviews, and it made me want to work with the team and company.

What does a day in the life of Gina look like? What are you working on that excites you?

Day-to-day it’s very busy — I’m currently supporting four recruiters, and with Illumio’s exciting growth right now, there’s constant scheduling and coordinating to do between candidates and team members.

I’m also regularly in the office hosting on-site interviews. It’s a refreshing break to step away from the computer, meet people in-person at headquarters, and connect with the rest of my team in a different way.

Otherwise, I’m working on cross-functional projects with the Marketing team and within our own People team. The main exciting project that’s getting started is Illumio’s intern program for next year. I’m working with executives and hiring managers to get an understanding of our intern needs and will start recruiting this month! I’m very passionate about student learning and early career development, so being able to bring that passion to my work is important to me.

What is the most important thing you've learned at Illumio so far?

I’ve learned how to develop and grow my career. Illumio has such a supportive, growth-focused environment, which I try to take advantage of through learning more about my role, different parts of the business, and new ways of working and collaborating.

In my role, I interact with so many different teams and people across Illumio. This gives me so many opportunities to seek out mentorship and learn from others.

What are you passionate about outside of your career?

A lot! I’m very much a busy bee, and like being physically and mentally active. I love to travel, specifically to Disney theme parks, practice yoga, and play in a few adult sports leagues.  I’m also a big true crime junkie and proud dog mom to Cinna, a 2-year-old border collie.

I always say my passions are the three Ds: Dogs, Disney, and the Denver Nuggets! Even though I’m not from Denver, I became a Nuggets fan when Michael Porter Jr. was drafted in 2018.

Which Illumio core value resonates with you and why?

Leveraging differences. Collaboration is key — it’s essential to learn from each other, discuss and share ideas because everyone has unique backgrounds, experiences, and knowledge. You never know where the next great idea can come from.

What do you want people to know about working at Illumio?

That’s a question I get asked every day, “Why Illumio?”, and my answer is always that right now is such an exciting time to join Illumio. We’re going on 11 years, have a strong foundation already built, and we’re launching into bigger and better things. Everyone should be looking at Illumio right now. It’s an exciting ride!
