Inside Illumio: Jack Bagshaw

Jack Bagshaw, Regional Sales Manager at Illumio

Inside Illumio is a monthly series that highlights the exceptional individuals behind Illumio's world-class products. Each post will peek behind the scenes to spotlight a member of our team. Come get to know us a little better and learn more about what makes Illumio's culture so unique.

This month, meet Jack Bagshaw, Regional Sales Manager at Illumio, located in the UK. Learn why seeking truth with customers is key to his role, how he sees Illumio solving real-world problems, and why anything with an engine gets his attention.

Tell me about yourself. What do you do at Illumio?

I’m a Regional Sales Manager for the UK and Ireland territory. My job is to drive growth and revenue for Illumio in my region. One of the key things for us is navigating the challenging cybersecurity landscape our customers are facing and making sure that they are able to achieve their segmentation journeys.

I’ve been at Illumio for almost five years and started as an inside salesperson. Since then, I’ve progressed through promotions to my current position. I’ve seen Illumio change and grow throughout the years, especially in the UK and Ireland region. When I first started, Illumio was just expanding to this region, and it’s been incredible to see Illumio’s presence grow here.

What made you interested in working at Illumio?

I really believed in the technology — and that’s essential for my role. I see firsthand how Illumio helps our customers solve real cybersecurity problems that protect not just their organizations but also their own customers and the services they need.

What does a day in the life of Jack look like? What are you working on that excites you?

I’m always engaging with customers to help them navigate the implementation process, whether it’s a proof of concept or how to get the most value out of their deployment.

My favorite parts of my job are working with customers every day and being able to fix problems for them. I often attend outings or events where I get to meet my customers face-to-face. I'm always looking for ways to build genuine relationships — I believe people buy things from people, not companies.

And it’s incredibly exciting to help customers see their project through to key milestones and full implementation. It’s great to see how Illumio and my own work with customers has helped them achieve important initiatives that will deliver real value for them long term.

What is the most important thing you've learned at Illumio so far?

I’ve gotten better at navigating through all the different personalities and goals that are involved in security projects. Every single person I work with is a different person entirely with different goals for their role and team.

I’ve learned how to listen, ask questions, and communicate with each person on a project to understand their key pain points and how to solve for them. Illumio makes that process easier for me — the platform offers something that will provide benefits across many different teams and departments.

But I’ve also become a trusted advisor for customers. If it’s clear Illumio isn’t the right solution for them at the moment, I’ll tell them. From a long-term perspective, this kind of honesty has helped build stronger relationships with customers, and many of them have reached back out when it was the right time for them to implement Illumio.

What are you passionate about outside of your career?

I love golf. You can’t beat a good round of golf on a sunny day with a few friends.

And anything with an engine — or really, anything that makes a loud noise. I’m into Formula One and have slowly started building a little collection of motorbikes that I enjoy riding and working on.

Which Illumio core value resonates with you and why?

Seek truth. There’s really nothing more important than being truthful with customers, especially in my role. Truth and honesty build trust, and trust helps get projects to the finish line.

And if I could choose another, it would be Onwards Together. No one wins or loses by themselves. We have to do everything as a team or success won’t happen. At Illumio, every customer project has at least 10 or 15 Illumio team members that have worked on it. Without that kind of teamwork every day, we wouldn’t be able to deliver the best solution to our customers.

What do you want people to know about working at Illumio?

Illumio balances a very fast-paced culture with a focus on collaboration. Implementing Illumio looks different for every customer. If you don’t bring in other team members to work on a project with you, it won’t be successful. We all have our own strengths, backgrounds, and knowledge that we come to projects with.

It’s clear that everyone at Illumio has the same goal. Everyone on the team is willing to work together to help customers achieve the best possible outcomes.
